This is a false economy...

Hi Reader,

I see this mistake all the time…

People try to cobble together a digital product business using:

  • Free advice
  • Free (or very cheap) tools

This is because they don’t want to “waste” money on:

  • A decent course or membership
  • Proper sales and checkout software
  • Deadline tools
  • A good email marketing platform

And then they’re baffled when sales are… underwhelming.

Here’s the thing.

If you want a successful digital product business, you need to think like an investor, not like a 1950s housewife.

A 1950s housewife scrimps and saves – and that can make sense when you’re managing household finances on a tight budget.

But if you’re running a business?

Especially a digital product business?

That mindset is going to hold you back – big time!

Instead, you need to think like an investor!

Investors don’t think about scrimping and saving...

They think about Return On Investment (ROI).

Paying $49/month for a membership that teaches you how to do all this properly might feel expensive…

But if it helps you sell 20 copies of a $100 product instead of 1 copy each month, it’s a bargain.

Paying $29/month for proper checkout software instead of cobbling together a free solution might feel annoying…

But if it helps you make $2,000/month instead of $100, it’s a no-brainer.

You can apply this same logic to:

  • Email marketing platforms
  • Sales pages
  • Deadline technology
  • Design tools
  • Course hosting software
  • And more!

So yes, maybe the “investor” approach costs $100+ a month.

But if the result is $2,000/month in digital product income?

That’s worth it, right?

Let’s summarize all that:

Housewife mentality: spend $0, make $100
Investor mentality: spend $100, make $2,000

I know which I’d rather have 😉

Hi Reader, Do you feel like you’re constantly busy? Constantly working, working, working… yet still not really getting anywhere? Does it kind of feel like you are on a backwards treadmill - no matter how hard you work, you just never seem to move forwards? If so, you are definitely not alone. So many bloggers and business owners tell me that they feel like this. And the reason is nearly always the same: They've never set proper goals for their business. And if you don't set goals, you can't...

Hi Reader, Quick question for you… Would you rather have an RPM of $34 or an RPM of $284? Feels like a no-brainer, right? And yet – every single year – huge numbers of bloggers choose the first one. Why? Because they choose to monetize with ads instead of digital products. I run the Blogging Income Survey every year, and the pattern is remarkably consistent: 👉 Digital products earn around 8x more than ads for the same pageviews. Let’s put that into context… If your blog gets 10,000 pageviews...

That with AI search, LLMs, zero-click results, and Google “answering everything”, keyword research just doesn’t matter anymore. And on the surface, I get why people think that. But here’s the truth 👇 Keyword research is not dead. Not even close. Why people think keyword research is dead Most of the “keyword research...
