$34 vs $284 (this shouldn’t be a hard choice…)

Hi Reader,

Quick question for you…

Would you rather have an RPM of $34 or an RPM of $284?

Feels like a no-brainer, right?

And yet – every single year – huge numbers of bloggers choose the first one.

Why?

Because they choose to monetize with ads instead of digital products.

I run the Blogging Income Survey every year, and the pattern is remarkably consistent:

👉 Digital products earn around 8x more than ads for the same pageviews.

Let’s put that into context…

If your blog gets 10,000 pageviews a month:

  • Ads might earn you around $340 per month
  • Digital products? More like $2,840 per month

Same traffic. Wildly different outcome.

So why don’t more bloggers go down this route?

Honestly?

Because monetizing with digital products feels harder.

With SEO + ads, the path is fairly straightforward:

  • Do keyword research
  • Create content
  • Optimize for search

With digital products, you’re suddenly talking about:

  • Market research
  • Product creation
  • Sales pages
  • Checkout platforms
  • Launches and flash sales
  • Tripwires
  • Evergreen funnels
  • Email marketing
  • Webinars, deadlines, offers…

So people retreat to what feels “safe”.

The problem is, it's not at all safe… The SEO + ads model is precarious – and getting less and less reliable by the week.

Traffic is down for many bloggers, and AI is increasingly answering questions directly, without any need to click through to a website AT ALL.

Which brings us to the real solution.

You don’t need to avoid digital products because they feel "too hard" or "too scary".

You just need a clear, calm, step-by-step way to do them properly.

That’s what I focus on teaching inside DPSA: small daily actions, a clear roadmap and no overwhelm.

That way, you get all the upsides of digital products – like higher RPMs, more control and a more reliable income – without the confusion or overwhelm.

Happy digital product creation!

Eb 😊

Does it kind of feel like you are on a backwards treadmill - no matter how hard you work, you just never seem to move forwards? If so, you are definitely not alone. So many bloggers and business owners tell me that they feel like this. And the reason is nearly always the same: They've never set proper goals for their business. And if you don't set goals, you can't...

Hi Reader, I see this mistake all the time… People try to cobble together a digital product business using: Free advice Free (or very cheap) tools This is because they don’t want to “waste” money on: A decent course or membership Proper sales and checkout software Deadline tools A good email marketing platform And then they’re baffled when sales are… underwhelming. Here’s the thing. If you want a successful digital product business, you need to think like an investor, not like a 1950s...

That with AI search, LLMs, zero-click results, and Google “answering everything”, keyword research just doesn’t matter anymore. And on the surface, I get why people think that. But here’s the truth 👇 Keyword research is not dead. Not even close. Why people think keyword research is dead Most of the “keyword research...
