Hi Reader, Last week I shared how to identify your 20% tasks. Those High Impact Tasks that actually move the needle in your blogging business. But here’s the thing… Identifying your 20% is only half the battle. Because knowing what matters most doesn’t automatically mean it gets done. And this is where a lot of bloggers get stuck. They know what they should be focusing on… But their time never quite seems to align with their priorities. So today I want to show you the next step. How to actually ensure your 20% tasks get done, so they don’t just sit on a list gathering dust. Planning your 20% tasks for the yearIn 80/20 Blogging, I go into this in a lot more detail. But at its core, there are three simple steps to planning your 20% activities over the next 12 months... Step 1: Decide the order you will do your 20% tasksStart by looking at all the activities you’ve identified as high ROTI. And then ask yourself a very simple question: If I could only do ONE of these… which would make the biggest difference? That’s your number 1. Then repeat the process. If I could only do ONE of the remaining activities… which would I choose next? And so on. Until you’ve ranked them all. Now you’ve gone from a long, slightly overwhelming list… To a clear order of priority. Simple. But powerful. Step 2: Decide WHEN you will do each activityBut an order alone is not enough. Next up... You assign each of your 20% activities to a specific month. Not “sometime this year”. Not “when I get a chance”. A real month. On the calendar. Because here’s what usually happens otherwise… You look at your list and think: “I’ve got loads of time…” And before you know it, months have slipped by and nothing has actually moved forward. But when you assign each task to a specific month? You create mini-deadlines. And deadlines change behaviour. Suddenly, things stop being “one day” tasks… And start becoming “this month” tasks. Step 3: Create detailed Monthly Action PlansOnce you know what you’re doing and when you’re doing it… The final part is to break each 20% task down into actual steps. Not vague intentions. But specific, step-by-step Monthly Actions Plans to follow. This does two really important things... First, it makes each 20% activity feel far less overwhelming. And second, it keeps you focused when you sit down to work. Because instead of thinking: “What should I do today?” You already know. You just follow the plan. And that’s what 80/20 Blogging is all about. This isn’t about doing more. It’s about making sure the right things actually happen. Consistently. Without relying on motivation or guesswork. Next week…We’ll look at what to do with “everything else”. Because you can’t put your bright new shiny Monthly Action Plans into practice, if all your time is being eaten up by a whole slew of low-impact 80% tasks! Happy 80/20ing! Eb 😊 P.S. If you want a step-by-step guide (with lots of examples and assignments) on how to apply the 80/20 rule your own blogging business, so you can achieve more while working less, head here: 80/20 Blogging |
